The West Coast Hwa Rang Do® Academy (WCHRDA) is a traditional martial arts school, which teaches and maintains the high values and moral ethics of classic Eastern philosophies. The school opened in 1994 and is headed by Chief Master Taejoon Lee. Chief Master Lee is a 7th Degree HRD Black Sash, and is the eldest son of the Founder, Dr. Joo Bang Lee. Though the goals are serious, and the training rigorous, the Academy provides a warm and friendly environment for all--men, women and children.

Physically and mentally, the West Coast Hwa Rang Do Academy has transformed my life for the better. Aside from learning valuable self-defense techniques, I've grown as a person and develop discipline, giving me the opportunity to start and grow a very successful business in the middle of a recession.

One can apply what's taught in Hwa Rang Do to any situation and it's training can make you better in all aspects of life. Grand Master Lee is arguably one of the best in both application and instruction. Good Luck!!

In a nutshell, being a black belt in a different style myself, I find Tae Soo Do / Hwa Rang Do, definitely, the most comprehensive of all martial arts. We had our six-year old start Tae Soo Do curriculum when he was three years old and now he is preparing to take his black belt test in a few months. Once he has attained his black belt, we will definitely have him pursue his black sash in Hwa Rang Do. I can’t explain how satisfied we are with what my son has learned to date. We will be starting our younger son in a few months as well. We are honored and appreciate to have Grandmaster Lee in our life along with us, teaching our children the life-long values such as, honor, commitment, leadership, responsibility, and a strong moral character as well as all aspects of self-defense one could ever imagine. He is real!
